Is there anyone out there going on a sailing trip and could use a deck hand? My name is Steve and I live in Melbourne, Fl. I am a pror boat owner and have sailed for many years. I am 29 years old and have a passion for sailing. I would love nothing more then to be out on the water charting a course. I am honest and modest, knowlegeable and incredibly loyal. If you are planning a trip and could use some extra help or just someone to tag along to keep company, please allow me an opportunity. Keep in touch.
Anyone planning to cross the atlantic in October, sailing from the Canary Islands? I'm looking for a crew position to sail across the Atlantic, but I need to be back at work mid November so can't wait for the main departure dates (which seem to leave the Canaries in November). I'm open to all suggestions, I'm an experienced sailor (at least on coastal navigation) but I have never experienced real "Blue Water" sailing!
What is this part of a wooden sailing ship called? I'm going to try to explain this the best I can. Lately I have been writing a novel that involves a wooden sailing ship. What I need to know is what the part that holds the hatch to the lower deck is called. Like, where the deck dips slightly, right behind that. This information would be a lot of help.
Examples of sailing ships performing actual open ocean naval ambush? I am trying to study examples of actual naval ambushes conducted in open oceans (not seas) in the sailing ship era. Replies with URL links are appreciated. Thanks in advance. Thanks for reading and providing answers. It is important that two aspects are noted: 1) Open ocean only, any of the five. Straits, seas, inlets, rivers and harbours as a start of engagement are excluded; 2) Sailing ships in the context of pre-steam engines era. This does include Viking knorrs and any other ocean vessel that is primarily powered by sails.
How does sailing relate to business? I have been sailing for a few years now, and lately I have been realizing the importance of team work and communication. How can the tools and lessons used in sailing relate to business?
Is it possible to live on a boat sailing the seas? Is it possible to live on a boat sailing the seas eating what I catch? If it possible, what would I do for drinks and what is the likely hood of dying due to a whirlpool, hurricane or whale ramming the boat? I'm not sea/boat-smart but lately I've been wanting to do such a thing and I just want to know if it's a decent idea or a horrible idea. People with experience or people who know anything about this please let me know because I don't want to start something and then end up regretting it later. Oh, and I've recently been hearing about pirates attacking ships and such on the news? Is it likely that I will encounter a pirate if I do this? Also, this is not a joke I am 100% serious. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while.

Sailing questions. How many sailing miles between the east coast of the US and Australia? Those who know of sailing.. I know nothing about sailing and very little about sailing vessels. May I please have an estimate of sailing time for a vessel-- large enough for ten to fifteen people with small cabins and a good sized cargo area-- in days, etc. for sailing from the east coast of the US to the southern tip of Australia? Also from the west coast, if that is better? Actually, from the west coast would be more logical in this case, I believe. Those who know of sailing.. I very much appreciate all help and advice in this. Thank you Sherry
Where can I get sailing lessons in Dallas, Texas? I used to sail years ago when I was a child. My uncle taught me how to sail on a Catalina-23, but I have been off the water for more than twenty-three years and I am about to purchase my first sailboat since I was 12-years old. I want to take a class on Sailing and all applicable skills to make sure that I understand and remember everything that I need to sail successfully and safely. Any advice? Thanks.

Does anyone know a poem that has to do with sailing through a portal and discovering knowledge? In the poem, the author says that once he sails through the portal, he will acquire all the knowledge he needs. But, after sailing through the portal, all he sees are more portals. And in fact, he has to choose a specific portal, so he ends up realizing that he will never know everything. I thought it was Tennyson, but I can't find anything like that. I'm pretty sure the poet was British, though.
What is the best sailing course to do? I've wanted to learn to sail for years. I'm finally determined to take it up, possibly looking to take it to a professional level. Where should I start?
